Kandace Springs on Nina Simone's “Wild Is the Wind” | A Story in Every Note
“When Nina [Simone] plays, I see an image in my head and I try to play it back and put it down on the piano. It’s almost like I know her, in a way.” For Kandace Springs, Nina Simone’s influence as a multi-hyphenate, genre-defying musician dates back to her childhood and continues to this day.

The number of notes per beat, or the dynamics (volume) and crescendi, have much less to do with physiologic responses than harmonic progressions that pique our interest, or modulations through keys that command attention or, especially, a progression through circles of 4ths or 5ths to the tonic that, unique to Western tonal music, build to a climax of intense anticipation and the expectation of resolution, like the dénouement of a novel, or gestural import of a painting.
yes
Beethoven's Fifth Symphony
Das ist die Symphonie aus der neuen Welt!!!
